Tottenham Hotspur want PSG star Fabian Ruiz to compete with Yves Bissouma in midfield

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the near future.

According to Fichajes, they want the 27-year-old to compete in midfield with Yves Bissouma. The Mali international’s rise under Ange Postecoglou has been one of the stories of the season.

He seemed like a misfit in Antonio Conte’s plans but is now one of the Greek-Australian manager’s most trusted players. But he isn’t immune from injuries, fatigue, and of course, suspension.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been an outcast under Postecoglou. He was brilliant in our 2-0 win against Fulham on Friday but it is expected that he drops to the bench yet again when ‘Biss’ returns from his suspension.

Spurs want Ruiz

The problem with the Spain international could be that he has a long-term contract that expires only in the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt). However, what would come as good news to his suitors, he just isn’t getting any meaningful gametime.

He has featured in just 423 minutes of first-team football in 10 games across competitions this term. While that isn’t awful, it still is too little for a player in the prime of his career who would want to represent Spain in major tournaments.

But Spurs have to be careful here. It is best to sell one or two expendable players before getting him in. Promising him playing time could tilt things in our favour otherwise why would he want to leave a dominant Ligue 1 club he just joined last?

The best possible approach would be to somehow sign him in the winter transfer market. After all, Pape Matar Sarr and Bissouma are set to represent their respective countries at the AFCON in January.

Given we are in a title race and lead the pack after just over 25% of the season has been completed, we should not compromise when it comes to giving Postecoglou a team he wants.
