AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur keeping an eye on Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson

Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma are apparently attentive to the situation of Albert Gudmundsson at Genoa, as per Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto.

Spurs don’t have a shortage of wingers. Richarlison can play there, and so can Son Heung-min, while Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon are all capable of playing as wingers.

But the situation is a bit complex. Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich means that Richarlison and Son’s time in the No. 9 position will only increase, given we didn’t sign a replacement. Lucas Moura also left the club in the summer.

Maddison’s injury in the 4-1 hammering in the Premier League against Chelsea only complicates matters for us even more. Gil hasn’t proven himself at the top level at all while Solomon, undoubtedly a great addition to the team, is still finding his way at his new club.

What should Spurs do?

Brennan Johnson is an important figure here, and the former Nottingham Forest man, who cost us £47.5million, is clearly someone Ange Postecoglou likes and wants to play more often. But regardless, we need depth down the flanks.

Another injury to someone like Son or Deki can throw our season into disarray. Gudmundsson, 26, seems like a good fit, given he is in his prime years and still has a long way to go before he starts to decline physically.

Now, this is strictly an opinion, but a move to a club challenging for the UEFA Champions League spots on a consistent basis will be a step up from playing at Genoa. A move to England brings with it a lot of spotlight, fame, and attention.

It remains to be seen if he will be interested in the move to Tottenham if Roma also formalise their interest, given that Jose Mourinho’s side will offer him the chance to stay in Italy. The player still has just over two-and-a-half years left on his contract (Transfermarkt).
