Ange Postecoglou hints at Tottenham Hotspur’s January transfer plans

Ange Postecoglou has hinted that Tottenham Hotspur could make signings in the January transfer window.

The Greek-Australian manager hinted at this possibility by saying that it was never going to take just one transfer window for him to build his ideal Spurs team. He was active in the recently concluded transfer window.

While Spurs saw the exits of Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez, and Harry Winks on a permanent basis, there were incomings in the form of Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon, and Alejo Veliz among others.

It is safe to say that the incomings have proven to be a hit at the club. Despite not signing Kane’s replacement, we have done really well and were top of the league before the start of gameweek. Asked about Spurs’ January plans at his latest pre-match presser, Postecoglou replied, via Football.London:

Making sense of Postecoglou’s comments

“I’ve said right at the start we’ve only had one window trying to build a team – it was never going to happen in that one window, but obviously we have to plan. Whether that’s January or the summer or beyond and we’ll work through that.

“But what’s important to me is that we still have a significant number of games between now and January. And we want to make sure we’re performing at a good level.

We have to keep in mind that there are several first-team stars out due to injury right now. After one game against Chelsea, Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were suspended while James Maddison and Micky van de Ven were injured.

It was a swift reminder about how quickly things can change. Many fans and pundits were talking about how Spurs should keep their main stars fit if they want to challenge for the Premier League title, which is an obvious point to make.

But suddenly, we find ourselves without our two best defenders and our best midfielder. Even if they return in time before the January transfer window ends, we have to make sure that such situations don’t derail us in the future.

A new striker won’t hurt and it seems that Spurs are keen on strengthening their backline, with AFC Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly name being mentioned frequently. That is the need of the hour, for sure.
