Ange Postecoglou speaks on Tottenham Hotspur’s January plans after recent injuries
Ange Postecoglou has refused to give out any definite plans that Tottenham Hotspur may have for the January transfer window after a slew of recent injuries.
But the Greek-Australian tactician did give an idea that Spurs were working in the background to make things happen. Johan Lange was recently acquired from Aston Villa as the club’s new technical director and Ange has said that he has begun his work behind the scenes.
Speaking ahead of the game against Aston Villa on Sunday (26 November), Postecoglou said, via Football.London:
“I guess the challenge for us was they all came at once as it hasn’t been staggered. In terms of January, the planning is well away with that. Johan has come in and he’s leading that in terms of all the background work.
“My involvement and my own sort of ramp up to it as we get closer to January and understanding exactly what our requirements are at the moment, although work has been done in the background with Johan leading it and he’s brought in some people to help him in that area. We’ll work with him when the time is right.”
What should Spurs do?
Micky van de Ven is injured. James Maddison was also injured in the 4-1 loss against Chelsea earlier this month while Richarlison underwent pelvic surgery.
Rodrigo Bentancur is thankfully back from injury but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future hangs in the balance. All things said and considered, Spurs needed a few signings mid-season regardless of the injuries.
We could use a new striker to add depth up front after Harry Kane’s exit. Manor Solomon is good but he is raw and he can’t be trusted every single week.
A new centre-back is also needed. Eric Dier’s future is also up in the air while we loaned out Joe Rodon in the summer with Davinson Sanchez also leaving the club. This is the area that needs urgent strengthening.

With Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma set to leave for AFCON in January and Hojbjerg’s future uncertain, a new midfielder is also a good idea. A centre-back, however, should be our priority.
