Tottenham star Cristian Romero sends message on social media after memorable win for Argentina over Brazil

Cristian Romero, as expected, featured in Argentina’s clash against Brazil on 22 November at the Maracana.

The match, which started off on the backdrop of controversial violent clashes in the stands, was a feisty affair, as it always is when these two teams meet, especially with something at stake. La Albiceleste won.

Nicolas Otamendi’s 63rd-minute goal meant they took home maximum points on enemy territory and stayed on top of their group with 15 points from six matches — eight points ahead of Brazil.

Romero played the full 90 minutes and helped his team keep a crucial clean sheet. After the match, the 25-year-old centre-back took to his Instagram account to post a series of photos from the game.

He captioned it:

“What a team for god sake. How not to feel identified with this band.
We continue writing history @afaseleccion 💙🤍” (Translated in English)

It’s always a good sight to see Romero happy when on international duty. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner was a regular for Argentina’s national team before his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur and that hasn’t changed.

He is arguably their best defender and in the prime years of his life, so, of course, this shouldn’t change in the future as well. He got important playing time under his belt, given he played the full game where Argentina lost 2-0 to Uruguay.

It was important as he needed playing time after being sent off in the 4-1 Premier League loss against Chelsea. And more importantly, he is back unscathed. We cannot afford to have another star defender out, with Micky van de Ven already on the treatment table.
