Chris Sutton gives prediction for Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa clash
Former Premier League striker and current BBC pundit Chris Sutton has predicted that Aston Villa will hold Tottenham Hotspur to a draw in their upcoming Premier League match.
Actually, Sutton believes that it will be Spurs who will be lucky to get a draw… he gave an extensive prediction for the game and ultimately settled for a 2-2 scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
But he said that if he had to pick a winner, it would be Unai Emery’s Villa. He wrote in his BBC column:
“Yes, Spurs have got some key players missing with Cristian Romero suspended and Micky van de Ven and James Maddison both injured, but he is not going to change the way his side play. It is going to be fascinating to see how they get on because Aston Villa are so well organised under Unai Emery, and you know they will be ready for them.
“Tottenham will try to dominate possession but Villa could try to press high and get after them or sit back and contain and look to hit them on the break. If I had to pick a winner, then I would go with Villa because they are so wily and they could expose any gaps Spurs leave open but I actually think this one will end up in a draw.”
Spurs need a win
Spurs aren’t in good form. James Maddison and Micky van de Ven’s injury has hit us hard, while Cristian Romero’s absence due to suspension was dearly felt in the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves beat us 2-1 with two late goals after we were beaten 4-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after going down to nine men. Because of those results, we have slipped down to fourth in the table with 25 points from 12 matches, and trail league leaders Manchester City by three points.
That gap, against a team like Manchester City in the title race, can be a lot already. We have to aim to win the Premier League title regardless of the injury situation here, which is why we can’t afford to drop points against Villa at home.
We need to keep up with Arsenal and Liverpool in the table. Moreover, it is imperative we win our home games if we are to be taken seriously in the title race. We lost just twice in 23 games against Villa last season.

But Villa played well against us last term, completing a league double over us, beating us 2-0 at home. Emery is a smart manager and he has some world-class players in his team, but Ange Postecoglou should know that Spurs have to take the onus in this game, attack, and outscore the Villans.
