Tottenham Hotspur are interested in SL Benfica star Antonio Silva

SL Benfica star Antonio Silva continues to draw attention with his standout performances for the Portuguese giants and now Tottenham Hotspur have joined the fray for his signature.

The 20-year-old is one of the finest centre-backs in European football and is already a regular for Benfica. He has been at the Estadio da Luz since 2016, breaking into the first team in 2022. He has since amassed 62 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring six goals in the process.

A solid defensive prospect with much room to grow, Silva has the minerals to develop into one of the best in the business. With Tottenham harbouring high ambitions of success, the youngster is exactly the profile of player that we should be aiming to land.

Ange Postecoglou has seen his side slide to three consecutive Premier League losses, a run that they have had to endure sans their first choice centre-back pairing. While Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven remain formidable options, the lack of reliable backups remains a worrying weakness.

The Spurs boss is aware of it and is keen to bring in a player who can compete with Romero and Van de Ven for a starting spot. According to Fichajes, this has seen Tottenham earmark Silva as a potential addition.

Signing the Iberian defender will not be easy given that Real Madrid and Manchester United are also in the fray. More so, Spurs will need to break the bank to match Benfica’s €100 million asking price for Silva.

The Portuguese giants are usually unwilling to budge on their asking price. After all, Liverpool and Chelsea both had to pay premium prices to land Darwin Nunez and Enzo Fernandez respectively.

The time is now to show that we are once again a serious football club capable of attracting the best talents in world football.
