Everton reject Tottenham Hotspur offer to alter Dele Alli deal
A recent proposal from Tottenham Hotspur to Everton concerning the terms of Dele Alli’s deal has sparked discussions and negotiations between the two clubs.
Dele Alli, who joined Everton in January 2022 on a free transfer from Tottenham, came with a deal that included clauses tied to both his performances and Everton’s overall team performance. The initial agreement stipulated that Everton would pay Tottenham £10m when Dele Alli made 20 appearances for the Toffees, potentially making the total deal worth up to £30m.
In a move to potentially ease the financial burden on Everton, Spurs have put forward an offer to alter the terms of the agreement. The proposed adjustment involves reducing the fee from £10m to £8m, with the condition that the required number of appearances for the payment also stands lowered. This manoeuvre would provide Everton with some financial relief while ensuring a payment to Tottenham becomes more feasible.
However, as per The Times [subscription required], Everton reject this proposal, indicating a desire to maintain the existing structure of the deal. Additionally, the Toffees are interested in modifying the payment structure, which is currently set to be due upfront after Dele Alli reaches 20 appearances for his new club.
What next for Dele?
The backdrop of Everton’s financial challenges, highlighted by a ten-point deduction for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules, adds complexity to the negotiations. The club’s recent on-field success, with consecutive wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, has helped them climb out of the relegation zone.
Interesting to note that they would have been above the likes of Brentford and Chelsea on the points table at this moment in case this reduction of points did not take place.
Coming back to Dele, the talks over the specific clause have not progressed significantly. But both clubs remain open to renegotiating the deal.
