Tottenham enter the race for £35m Chelsea target Jean-Clair Todibo
Tottenham have entered a race against Chelsea in signing Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo according to Express (h/t Fabrizio Romano). The Spurs have a crucial January ahead of them. Ange Postecoglou will be eyeing to bolster his squad with the incoming of new players.
The manager is on the lookout for defensive options and Todibo seems to be on top of his priority list. The club now sits 5th on the league table. Todibo was signed by Barcelona in 2019 but the player didn’t quite find his position at Camp Nou.
The French defender endured a series of loan spells for the next two years before finding a permanent home in Nice. Jean-Clair Todibo has been a regular for the Ligue 1 outfit ever since. The 23-year-old has 117 games under his belt for Nice to date.
His defensive skills are being tracked by Premier League rivals Chelsea and Spurs, who are desperate for a solid figure at the back. The player is valued at £35m, which is a bargain for both clubs considering their requirements.
Jean-Clair Todibo to be the key to Spurs’ uprising
Ange Postecouglou’s men went 10 games without a loss at the start of the Premier League. Many credit the club’s fine run to be the result of Son and Maddison’s powerful pairing.
However, it was also the Micky van de Ven-Cristian Romero duo that guarded Tottenham from behind. The Dutch defender succumbed to injury soon after, leaving things in distress for the Aussie manager.
Cristian Romero’s suspension was salt in the wound for the Spurs. Not to forget Yves Bissouma picking up two red cards along the way. The need for a solid figure at the heart of defence is imminent for the Lilywhites.
