Everton star James Tarkowski describes team-mate and Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite as a ‘physical beast’
Tottenham’s strong start to the season demands strategic planning to protect and enhance their performance. Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou need to recognize the importance of a robust strategy, acknowledging the risks associated with relying on swift player returns from injury or hoping to avoid injuries altogether.
One area that certainly needs reinforcements is that of centre-back. Micky van de Ven is yet to return from his injury layoff. The likes of Ben Davies and Eric Dier face uncertain futures at the club, and we have a few transfer targets on our radar including Everton centre-half Jarrad Branthwaite.
The 21-year-old returned to Merseyside in the summer after two successive loan spells at Blackburn Rovers two seasons ago and was a stalwart in the backline last term for Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven.
Speaking on The Ben Foster Podcast, his Everton teammate James Tarkowski spoke highly of the Carlisle-born lad and here is what he had to say:
“He’s a physical beast. I trust that I can leave him one-on-one in the channel because he’s so quick. I think he might be our quickest player. People try and run him down the line, I think Antonio tried to run him, and we know Antonio is a monster himself, and Jarrad just dealt with him down the line, and I was like fair enough, I’ll let you deal with it!”
Jarrad to the N17?
For the Lilywhites, the current squad, displaying resilience and fight and playing a visually attractive style of football, certainly presents an opportunity for Tottenham to solidify its position and potentially secure European football qualification for the next season. The pressure is mounting, and prudent player management becomes paramount.
Branthwaite, at this point, offers a smart option for Tottenham. The Everton defender’s contract runs until 2027 (Transfermarkt). According to The i via the Express, the Toffees have slapped a staggering £100m price tag on the 21-year-old in an attempt to deter clubs from testing their resolve. The club view him as a ‘Rolls Royce defender’ and feel that ‘he has everything’ required to play at the very top level.
While the price tag is steep, uncertainties surround Everton’s future, and Branthwaite’s commitment to staying on Merseyside may face challenges at the end of the season.
