Ange Postecoglou happy to ‘paying small price” with respect to Tottenham star Son Heung-min
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was his usual charismatic self, speaking ahead of the FA Cup clash against Burnley and addressed the Son Heung-min situation.
Captain Son is set to be unavailable for Spurs in the coming weeks as he’ll be busy representing his nation in the Asian Cup. One of the favourites in the tournament, once expect the South Korean to be involved well into the latter parts of the competition.
Usually, Tottenham did not feel the loss of Son as much since they had Harry Kane. The Englishman was without a doubt the talisman in attack, but he left for Bayern Munich in the summer. This meant that the baton was passed on to the South Korean.
Son has stepped up in some style so far. Wearing the armband, he has been exceptional for Ange Postecoglou’s team so far. There is absolutely no doubt that they will miss him dearly until he returns.
Speaking about the situation to Football. London, here is what Ange Postecoglou had to say
“I’d hate for that to be the case because you’d miss out on some fantastic talent. We’ve got a generational player from Asia that’s been representing our club. If we lose him every four years for five weeks, I think it’s a real small price to pay.”
Well, as the manager puts it, Son is an exceptional player who comes once in a generation. Tottenham are lucky to have had his services since 2015. We haven’t always been good at transfers but this was a bargain.
Spurs fans will be torn right now. On one hand, we want Son to do well for his nation and go the distance. On the other hand, the longer he goes with his nation, the longer he’ll not be available for us.
In the South Korean’s absence, we must look at options to fill in. Bryan Gil is an excellent option in this regard. If the Spaniard can step up, most problems will be sorted for the Australian manager.

Regardless, this is a small price we have to pay. The benefits outweigh the costs that we pay though, and we must make our peace with it.
