Tottenham Hotspur Guglielmo Vicario has his verdict on replacing Hugo Lloris
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has commented on how replacing Hugo Lloris feels knowing how difficult that task has been for him. However, looking at the way he has stepped up for the team is truly commendable.
Tottenham bid farewell to Hugo Lloris last week, as the legendary custodian decided to draw curtains on his time in North London and move to the MLS. Lloris leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having made an impressive 444 appearances for the Lilywhites and leading the team as captain from 2015 to 2023.
Vicario said:
“I just want to try to commit myself 100 per cent every day and try to give to Spurs fans a lot to remember about me so they have big thoughts about me, too. Football is not for always. You have to take care of your place and to give everything you have. People like Hugo did so much for this club and when you leave, you are always remembered in the best way. He did incredibly here.”
It is undeniable that the Frenchman will be remembered as a true icon for Spurs. However, it is clear that it was high time for him to seek new opportunities elsewhere. Last season, Lloris struggled and was subsequently replaced by new signing Guglielmo Vicario during the summer.
We admire the Frenchman for his commitment to staying at Spurs until a suitable successor was found. It’s evident that he recognised the right moment had arrived, especially considering Vicario’s impressive performances.
If Vicario can replicate the level of performance that Hugo displayed during his time at Spurs, then we can expect to have a highly skilled custodian for the next ten years. Vicario surely faces a daunting task in replacing the revered Hugo Lloris at Spurs, but the young Italian has shown his respect for the club’s former captain.
Ever since Vicario joined Tottenham from Serie A side Empoli in a £17.2million deal last June, he has proven to be an indispensable asset for the team. He quickly established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the league making some astonishing saves in this tenure.
