Fulham boss Marco Silva outlines Tottenham Hotspur performance to outline now defunct Carabao Cup ambitions
Fulham boss Marco Silva cites the Tottenham Hotspur clash to show appreciation for his side, according to BBC. The Cottagers manager was speaking to BBC Radio Live after the game and said:
From when we played the first time [in the EFL Cup] against Tottenham [beat 5-3 on penalties in the Second Round] we showed our ambition and our desire to go on in this competition.
Fulham faced defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. The close game saw Fulham draw the second leg but lose 2-3 on aggregate. The Merseysiders will face Chelsea in the final.
Fulham defeated Tottenham in the second round of the EFL Cup to advance. The game finished 1-1 but was won by Marco Silva’s side who eventually bested Tottenham 5-3 on penalties. Silva claims defeating Tottenham early into the competition resonated with the club’s clear intent.
Not a good time to be a Tottenham Hotspur fan, perhaps?
Tottenham Hotspur have done enough for the fans to rejoice this season, but also have given many reasons to blame them. Ange Postecoglou’s side went 10 games without tasting defeat in the Premier League but lost 4-1 at home against rivals Chelsea.
The club succumbed to a loss against minnows Fulham despite being in firing form in the early stages of the EFL Cup. They also slipped down the Premier League table after holding on to the spot for 10 weeks straight!
The club also suffered a horde of injuries and suspensions throughout the campaign. The AFCON and the Asian Cup brought them further trouble as the club had to let go of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Heung-min Son to fulfil national duties.
Even though The Lilywhites signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner, their possible next targets Antonio Nusa and Joshua Zirkzee face hijack threats. Newcastle United is in advanced talks with Nusa and there are Manchester United, Arsenal and Aston Villa pursuing Zirkzee.

The FA Cup and a top-four finish in the Premier League are the only hopes left for Tottenham this season. However, it is to be noted that Spurs will be facing a full-fledged Manchester City in the FA Cup’s next round. It is certainly a roller coaster of a ride for a Tottenham fan.
