Tottenham star Micky van de Ven is quite surprised to find out that he is faster than Virgil van Dijk in EA FC 24
In an official video posted as a collaboration between the Premier League and Tottenham’s official account, Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven was given the names of a number of his competitors and asked to say if he was faster or slower than them in the EA FC 24 game.
The talented Dutch defender took the humble route, but EA FC 24 most certainly were not. The popular football game rates the Tottenham defender’s pace really high. We are not sure the player thinks that highly of himself though.
Van de Ven got it right on a number of occasions when he was confident that he was faster than the likes of Pedro Porro and Raphael Varane. He also got it right the other way around when he was sure that both Kyle Walker and Destiny Udogie were faster than him.
With respect to Virgil van Dijk, Reece James and William Saliba though, he assumed they’d be faster than him and seemed genuinely surprised that the game thinks otherwise. Not a big fan of your own pace, uh Micky?
His biggest virtue
Without an iota of doubt, Micky van de Ven’s pace is his biggest virtue on a football pitch. It works very well for Tottenham who want to play a high line. The Dutch defender’s recovery pace means that he is often able to make up lost ground and help defend against opposition attacks.
This kind of explosive playstyle means he is also more susceptible to injuries. This is something that Spurs have already experienced this season and could do so, down the line as well. Maybe, taking a more measured approach to defending will help him sort this out.
We have seen fullbacks who are usually rapid but there aren’t many centre-backs going around the world who could compete with Van de Ven in a foot race. Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo might be one of the rare ones in this regard.
Saliba is another player who looks quick to the eye. He isn’t as fast as Van de Ven though. Playing alongside Cristian Romero, Van de Ven’s recovery pace helps compensate for the Argentinian’s aggressive streak on the occasions that he doesn’t emerge with the ball at his feet.

It’s time Van de Ven started realising the pace he actually has, and stopped being humble about it. Let’s wait and see how the defender performs for the rest of the current season.
