The 18-year-old midfielder his birthday sealed the deal that would see him move to London in the summer. It is the first time Bergvall has chosen to play outside his home country.
Barcelona was leading the race to sign the Swedish prodigy for a long period. They outbid numerous Bundesliga and Serie A sides in the process. The entry of the Premier League team changed the course for them.
It is even reported that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco had lunch with the Bergvall family to cement things between the youngster and the Catalunian club. All in vain though.
Tottenham and EPL’s official Instagram handle shared a picture of Lucas holding his new team’s shirt to announce the signing. The star shared the post on his story.
A new era for Spurs
Did we ever imagine a player could snub Barcelona for Tottenham? Barcelona, just like Real Madrid, is considered to be the dream team for any young talent. However, Lucas Bergvall’s decision is perhaps the start of a new era.
The reason for the Sweden international to choose Spurs might not just be limited to Barcelona’s current situation. The club will lose their manager Xavi come summer. They are 10 points clear of league leaders Real Madrid.
However, the recent snub should send panic signals to the Barca camp concerning their future projects. On the other hand, Tottenham, under Ange Postecoglou, is transforming themselves rapidly. Their goal-scoring exploits are a threat to any team.
