Girona defender Miguel Gutiérrez wanted by a host of La Liga clubs and Tottenham Hotspur also seems to be interested
According to the Spanish outlet Relevo, Girona full-back Miguel Gutiérrez who is wanted by other La Liga clubs is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur to help us in getting our defensive setup tight.
Despite the attention from several clubs, Miguel reportedly harbours a strong desire to reunite with his childhood club, Real Madrid, where his football journey began at the tender age of nine. Gutiérrez made 10 appearances for Real Madrid as a youth player before moving to Girona, where he featured in both La Liga and the Champions League.
Since joining from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, Gutiérrez has been rather impressive. It is evident that a number of top clubs could take advantage of the €35 million release clause in his contract.
Since joining Girona, Miguel has consistently secured a spot in the starting lineup, featuring in 22 La Liga matches this season. He has made a valuable contribution with one goal and three assists. Renowned for his adaptability, he has also been deployed as a left midfielder in nine matches this season.
In terms of Tottenham, the potential signing of Gutierrez would come as a surprise. With talents like Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, and Ryan Sessegnon already in the squad, Gutierrez may find it challenging to secure regular playing time at the North London club. Udogie, in particular, has proven himself to be a crucial player for Tottenham.
Gutiérrez recognized that his chances of rejoining the team would be considerably higher during the summer transfer window rather than in January. This undoubtedly influenced his decision to decline the offer from the Premier League. However, the situation could change in the summer if Spurs also secure a Champions League spot.
