Mark Lawrenson sees Brighton beating Tottenham 2-1
Calling a game is always a tough task. Especially when it comes to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. You never know what side would actually turn up. However, this evening’s showdown between the Lilywhites and Brighton will be a treat to watch given how both teams play a progressive style of football and attack the opposition.
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson took to predicting the result of the fixture between Ange Postecoglou‘s side and the Seagulls and trusted the visitors to just inch out the home side in a 2-1 win. Here is what Lawrenson had to say in his Paddy Power exclusive:
“Brighton hammered Crystal Palace in the so-called M23 derby so they’ll be flying. This will be a really open, good game of football to watch. It’s about time Brighton won an away game and I fancy them to do just that here. Tottenham 1-2 Brighton.”
The last game between the sides earlier this season at the Amex ended satisfactorily but the way Tottenham started the game took the result away from us. Even though Spurs scored twice in five minutes after the 80th minute, it was not enough for Ange’s side to overcome the four goals the Seagulls scored before.
Will we really lose to Brighton?
Having said that, we have the edge over them in the last five head-to-head encounters, winning three of our last five. Historically as well, this has been a fixture with a proper result at the end. Both sides have drawn only on eight of the 38 occasions they have faced each other. Moreover, the last draw came in April 2018 so it has been a while.
Speaking of the charts, nine points separate both sides. Tottenham are fifth with 44 points while Brighton see themselves in eighth. With the season inching towards its conclusion, Tottenham cannot afford to drop points, particularly against teams lower down the table.
As they strive to secure a top-four finish, every match represents an opportunity to edge closer to their objective and maintain momentum in their pursuit of success.
In addition to the tangible benefits of accruing points, such as climbing the league standings, victories also instil confidence within the team and instigate a positive momentum that can have a great psychological effect. Furthermore, securing wins against challenging opponents [like Brighton] shall demonstrate the team’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure, qualities that are essential in a competitive league.

As Tottenham aim to solidify their place among the league’s elite, they must approach each match with a sense of urgency and determination. While Lawrenson’s prediction may favour Brighton, Spurs have the opportunity to defy expectations and assert their dominance on the pitch. Ultimately, securing victories in the closing stages of the season is imperative for Tottenham’s aspirations of clinching a top-four spot.
