Tottenham Hotspur are linked with a shock move for Real Madrid playmaker Arda Guler
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a shock move for 18-year-old Real Madrid playmaker Arda Guler who is struggling for game time at the Spanish capital, according to Spanish publication SPORT.
The teenage Turkish wonderkid joined Los Blancos in the summer, joining the La Liga giants after rejecting Barcelona. However, his time at the club hasn’t panned out as one would have hoped for.
The talented playmaker, once dubbed as the Turkish Messi, arrived in Madrid injured. He had to spend a spell on the sidelines. When he was just recovering, Arda got injured yet again. This meant that his debut took a long time coming.
Even though Arda has been fit for quite some time now, Carlo Ancelotti has not entrusted him enough. Could you really blame the manager though? If we take one look at the Real Madrid roster, it’s easy to understand that the teenager is going to have a tough time at the club.
Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Brahim Diaz and Dani Ceballos are all options ahead in the pecking order. Even if Ancelotti fields four midfielders in his line-up like he has been doing this season, two sets of midfield could play ahead of Arda Guler on any given day.
Regretting a bad decision?
At this point, it is increasingly looking like making the move to Real Madrid was a bad decision for Arda Guler. He might have gotten more game time at Barcelona or any other club for that matter.
This is where Spurs come in. Ange Postecoglou might be willing to offer the teenager a way out. Tottenham have one of the most exciting projects in the Premier League and he has the talent it takes to make an impact at the N17.
Postecoglou has shown us time and again that he is not afraid to throw a youngster into the starting XI. The Australian tactician could find a place for Arda Guler as a #10 or on the wings. The player must consider making a move.

There is no doubt that the ‘Turkish Messi’ has a huge ceiling in the game. He has to stop making the wrong decisions based on the club’s reputation and start making the right decisions for his career. If he stays at Real Madrid, this could become yet another ‘Martin Odegaard’ story. Spurs represent a great option for him and let’s hope the club manages to sign him in the summer.
