Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign talented Benfica star defender Morato despite his €100m release clause
According to the Portuguese outlet Record, Tottenham Hotspur are ardent admirers of Benfica defender Morato who right now has a release clause of €100m.
In order to compete for the Championship title in the upcoming campaign, Spurs must enhance the squad by acquiring more quality players and ensuring sufficient squad depth. With the possibility of our club participating in the next UEFA Champions League season, investing more in the team to strengthen it is a logical step.
Although Morato possesses talent, he has yet to fully justify the price tag set on him. It is unlikely that he will attract such a suitor immediately, even if they are willing to pay a significant sum for him.
Tottenham has made some notable signings this season, including Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin. Another first-team defender is crucial for them in the summer, and Morato would be an excellent investment.
It is expected that the Brazilian will show progress as he receives better coaching and gain more experience. If Tottenham were to make a concrete proposal at the end of the season, he might find it hard to resist the temptation to join what is a team on the rise. This addition of Morato to our roster has the potential to greatly enhance the team’s quality, given his ability to play both as a left-sided central defender and as a left-back when needed.
We have seen in the past with Darwin Nunez and Enzo Fernandez that Benfica are difficult negotiators to talk with. While we do have Daniel Levy, it remains to be seen if the Portuguese giants are willing to lower their asking price. With Antonio Silva also linked with an exit, it is debatable if Benfica will sanction the exit of two key defenders in the same window.

Morato is certainly an excellent talent whose stock will rise in the years to come. By moving fast, Tottenham can secure themselves yet another young centre-back for the long haul. A quartet of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Morato would be exemplary squad building indedd.
