Ange Postecoglou praises Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s chemistry
Ange Postecoglou praised his defensive duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven while addressing the media ahead of the Wolves clash, per Football London. He emphasised the importance of centre-back partnerships and how the duo are being crucial for the club.
Upon being asked how impressed the manager is with the relationship between Romero and van de Ven, he responded:
Yeah it’s been really pleasing. As you said, centre-back partnerships most of the time, they tend to build together because you need so much understanding in a crucial part of the game where a lot of it is almost unspoken. You need to be able to understand each other’s game and I think they complement each other really well.
He particularly complimented Cristian Romero. Ange says the Argentine is one of the best defenders in the world but has also stepped up as a leader. The boss also explained how many players, including Micky learn from Romero.
The anchors at the back
The partnership between Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero is arguably the strongest weapon in Ange Postecoglou’s arsenal. The team flourished during the start of the campaign, enduring the first 10 games without a loss.
Things started going downhill for the North London outfits in November. During the Chelsea game, the team lost Cristian Romero to suspension and Micky van de Ven to injury. The match ended in a 1-4 loss for Spurs.
Romero returned to the squad after suspension but was sidelined once again, this time due to injury. Ange turned to Emerson Royal and Ben Davies for defensive services, however, they could not emulate the Micky-Romero partnership.

The club welcomed back the Dutchman a few weeks ago. He joined Romero to continue what they were doing. The club still looks shaky at the back but with time, the manager will be able to replicate the form from the start of the season.
