Tottenham target Viktor Djukanovic is up for sale with a condition
20-year-old Montenegrian winger Viktor Djukanovic of Swedish side Hammarby has been in fine form for the club since his move from his home country in January 2023. As is the case with any player in decent form, Djukanovic has seen himself linked with a move to clubs like Genoa, Bologna and PSV Eindhoven.
He has been a constant starter for his country alongside free-scoring at the club level. In 34 appearances across all competitions for Hammarby, he has 13 goals. Tottenham also see themselves linked with a move for the versatile attacker via Fotboll Direkt, who could actually move this summer as Hammarby’s chief says that a good offer could do the trick to sway Djukanovic away from Sweden. In an interview with Sportbladet, here is what Mikael Hjelmberg, the Sporting Director of Bajen had to say:
“It is absolutely not and I have been quite clear about that as well, at the same time that everything has its price. Should there be a rudely good offer, we will have to evaluate it in any case ,”
“You have a player in this as well who has ambitions who wants to go to Europe. You need to explain how we think, that we think it might be good for him to stay. We also understand that he will not remain in Hammarby for three years. There will be a transfer, it’s just about the timing,”
For Tottenham, acquiring Djukanovic would address a pressing need for depth on the left wing. While Son Heung-min remains a pivotal figure for the club, having additional options such as Djukanovic would provide valuable competition and support in the attacking department.
Attacking depth
Moreover, with Son approaching the latter stages of his career at 31 years old, it’s prudent for Tottenham to plan for the future and identify long-term replacements. Djukanovic’s youthfulness an
d potential make him an ideal candidate to potentially succeed Son and contribute to the club’s success in the years to come.Manager Ange Postecoglou’s vision for Tottenham includes building a squad capable of sustained success and adding promising talents like Djukanovic aligns with that vision. While Tottenham’s track record of replacing club legends may have been inconsistent in the past, there’s optimism that under Postecoglou’s leadership, the club can effectively plan for succession and secure the necessary reinforcements.
In Brennan Johnson and Manor Solomon, Tottenham already have a few good options capable of playing on the left wing. However, Djukanovic’s arrival would provide additional depth and competition within the squad, enhancing squad dynamics and increasing tactical flexibility.
In conclusion, Tottenham’s pursuit of Viktor Djukanovic represents a strategic move aimed at fortifying their squad for the challenges ahead. While Hammarby’s reluctance to part ways with their prized asset presents a hurdle, Tottenham must capitalise on the opportunity presented and submit a compelling offer to secure Djukanovic’s services.
