Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are ‘watching’ Odilon Kossounou

Tottenham Hotspur have added Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou to their ‘watchlist’, per German media outlet SportBILD via Sportswitness. The Lilywhites are in contention with Manchester United who are watching the star as well.

The Ivory Coast international rose to stardom under his new boss Xabi Alonso. The 23-year-old is an integral part of the Leverkusen side that is reigning supreme in the Bundesliga this season. The outlet also reports the asking price to be €50 million.

The price tag should be challenging Tottenham and Manchester United, however, they shouldn’t hold back considering a rather quiet January window. This is Kossounou’s third season in Germany’s top tier and also his best season so far.

Should Xabi Alonso continue at Leverkusen, the defender might want to continue growing under him. However, with growing speculations about the Spaniard’s exit, we never know what awaits, until the summer window opens.

No more room for defenders

Tottenham Hotspur secured Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in the summer window, leaving Ange Postecoglou with just one position to fill in the midfield. Eventually, Lucas Bergvall joined the ranks to fill the void.

Despite having a full-fledged squad, Tottenham are pursuing every option they can. The links to Kossounou, however, seem unrealistic as there is no place for another defender in the squad. Radu Dragusin is spending his time on the bench.

He was one of the most important players in Genoa. Should Odilon Kossounou join Ange’s side, his fate might not be any different. The Tottenham defensive unit is pretty stacked with the presence of Romero, van de Ven, Udogie and Porro.

The backup options Royal and Davies have their own place within the squad as well. The only viable option for the Bayer Leverkusen man is the exit of one of these stars. The upcoming window should bring many surprises for the Tottenham fans.
