Fabrizio Romano talks about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Loic Bade
According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Loic Bade and his potential departure from Sevilla at the end of the season is on the cards, but he downplayed the likelihood of Tottenham making a move for the talented centre-back.
Bade has enjoyed significant progress since making the switch from Rennes to Sevilla over a year ago, establishing himself as a key figure in the La Liga club’s defensive line. His stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, prompting speculation about his future and potential suitors, including Tottenham.
During the January transfer window, reports emerged suggesting that Sevilla were concerned after Tottenham expressed interest in acquiring Bade’s services. However, despite the speculation, no transfer materialised, with Spurs instead securing the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa.
Here is what Romano had to say about Bade’s links with Tottenham on The Daily Briefing [subscription required]:
“Loic Bade could leave in the summer, it’s a possibility with a good proposal. Tottenham never opened talks for him in January, as far as I know; also they signed Radu Dragusin and they trust him for the future, so there’s no movement so far, that’s my understanding.”
Loic Bade to the Spurs?
While Bade himself recently expressed his delight at the prospect of joining a prestigious club like Tottenham, Romano’s insights suggest that there were no concrete negotiations between the parties during the January window. Furthermore, Tottenham’s acquisition of Dragusin indicates their confidence in the Romanian defender for the future, potentially reducing the urgency to pursue Bade.
Romano emphasised that while the 23-year-old centre-back could potentially depart Sevilla in the summer with a compelling offer on the table, there have been no active discussions between Tottenham and the player’s representatives. Additionally, Tottenham’s recent transfer activity suggests that they may not be actively pursuing Bade at this time.
The situation underscores the fluid and dynamic nature of the transfer market, with clubs constantly evaluating their options and making strategic decisions based on various factors, including squad requirements, financial considerations, and player availability. While we have to venture into the market looking for a long-term Ben Davies replacement, it is unlikely that reinforcements would come in the form of Loic Bade.

For Bade, the prospect of a move to Tottenham remains uncertain, despite his openness to the idea. As the season progresses and the summer transfer window approaches, his future may become clearer, with potential suitors and negotiations likely to intensify. Ultimately, while Tottenham’s interest in Bade may have been reported previously, Romano’s insights suggest that no concrete developments have occurred, and Spurs’ focus may lie elsewhere as they plan for the future.
