Jamie Donley backs prolific Academy starlet to come good for Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are yet to replace the firepower upfront since Harry Kane moved to Bayern Munich in the 2023 summer transfer window. Spurs have been looking in the transfer market for a possible move for a number nine. Multiple players have been linked with a move to the Lilywhites but none have materialised into a transfer yet.
One of the strikers that Tottenham are looking at is Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Any move for the 27-year-old striker is probable to cost a lot of money. Alongside Tottenham Hotspur, their London neighbours Arsenal are said to be the favourites to land the English striker with Chelsea also keen.
However, the North Londoners could very well have a solution already amidst their ranks.
Tottenham have a budding striker of their own
Tottenham Hotspur have a high-potential striker of their own in Will Lankshear. The teenager is playing impressively in the youth ranks of the club and making a real name for himself.
The 18-year-old striker scored an 11-minute hat-trick for Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s at the weekend. This will help to grow his stance for a possible first-team debut under Ange Postecoglou. Lankshear has already been capped by the England Under-19s. Tottenham have also shown trust in him and has a contract that keeps him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium till the summer of 2026.
Any move for Ivan Toney or any other big-name striker will cost a lot of money. It will also restrict the progress of Will Lankshear into the first team. This could help Tottenham Hotspur to invest money elsewhere.
Backing of his teammate
Fellow Tottenham academy product Jamie Donley has backed Will Lankshear for a run-in into the first team:
When asked by football.london whether his teammate Will Lankshear is good enough to move into the first team, Jamie Donley said:
“Yes, definitely. He’s got a great attitude and he’s a great lad. He just keeps scoring goals and he’s doing really well. I was doing really well and I got my chance so he’s just got to keep his head down, working hard and I think he’s definitely good enough so he’ll get a chance hopefully.”

Giving Will Lankshear an opportunity in the first team can help Tottenham save a lot of money with Brentford asking for up to £100million for their star striker. It has to be seen what Ange does as Spurs’ links with big-name strikers continue
However, it is imperative that Tottenham stay patient and allow the youngster to develop. After all, expecting an 18-year-old to lead the line for a top Premier League side is not always practical. In the long run, Lankshear could prove to be a superstar for us. For now, it is important that we ease him in and bring out his best.
