Ben Jacobs says Chelsea could try and raise Conor Gallagher asking price amidst Tottenham interest

Chelsea might point to the Mason Mount sales deal to squeeze more money out of Tottenham, says renowned sports journalist Ben Jacobs to GiveMeSports in regards to Conor Gallagher. Tottenham are in dire need of a midfielder and Ange Postecoglou wouldn’t slip an opportunity to get one in the summer.

Chelsea’s stand-in captain Conor Gallagher is a fine option for the North Londoners. Postecoglou is an admirer of Gallagher and pursued him last summer and this winter, but for no good. Ben Jacobs says the Aussie manager will reignite the proceedings come summer.

The asking price of Gallagher remains a mystery, though. The midfielder was valued at £60m by Chelsea in January. The 24-year-old is inching closer to his contract expiry. Tottenham could raise this point and maybe bargain with Chelsea as there will be only a year left in Gallagher’s Chelsea contract.

The North Londoners can leverage Chelsea’s risk of having to let go of Gallagher for free. On the other hand, the Blues could point to the Mason Mount situation who was shipped to Manchester United for £60m with only a year left in his contract.

The battle of wits

Conor Gallagher has been an instrumental figure at Chelsea this season for Pochettino. The Argentine boss was left to deal with far too many injuries. Gallagher not only took the role of stand-in leader but also led from the front with fine performances.

Despite his efforts and availability for the team, the news of Gallagher’s exit has been taking rounds quite frequently. Chelsea wish to alleviate their risks concerning Profit and Sustainability Regulations by selling a homegrown player. They do realise no other player can bring in as much funds as Conor Gallagher at the moment.

Tottenham, on the other hand, brought Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in January. They also secured Lucas Bergvall who will be joining them next season. However, Ange’s hunger is not satiated. He needs a midfielder and he needs it to be Gallagher.
