Ivan Toney in the watchlist, Brentford quote too much
With the departure of Harry Kane last summer, Tottenham Hotspur entered a new era one where the Spurs faithful will hope to win some silverware. Ange Postecoglou has brought not only a sense of system and structure but also confidence and belief.
Despite the progress made at N17, Spurs are yet to replace Harry Kane in North London and there are expectations that Tottenham will try to sign a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Brazilian striker Richarlison has been playing up front this season while Heung-Min Son has been moved into a more central role (vis-a-vis finishing role) which has worked for the Australian coach.
Timo Werner was signed on loan in January from RB Leipzig although the German striker has been featuring on the left flank and has been used in the left pockets, something he did at Leipzig as well under Marco Rose.
This makes room for a striker at Tottenham Hotspur stadium and according to reports by The Mirror they are ‘watching’ Brentford centre-forward Ivan Toney. The England international has been subject to links from Arsenal and Chelsea since January transfer window however both the clubs haven’t made a move yet owing to Brentford’s demands.
Brentford are said to be demanding astronomical amounts for the 27-year-old’s services with The Bees having placed a £80m price tag on Ivan Toney.
Toney will have one one-year contract left at the Community Stadium when the summer comes and Arsenal have been a long-time admirer.
For Tottenham, investing smartly and not chasing the project beyond what it demands is important. Brentford’s quoted fee for Toney is too much considering this will be about what Spurs received for Harry Kane.
