Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou thinks beyond top-four finish

Ange Postecoglou, the man with the plan at Tottenham, isn’t one to mince words when it comes to his ambitions for the club. As Spurs find themselves in the thick of the Premier League race, the prospect of Champions League qualification looms large. But for Postecoglou, simply securing a top-four finish isn’t the end goal – it’s just the beginning.

Here is what he told BBC:

“It’s not a Willy Wonka golden ticket – it just gets you a year [in the competition],”

“But if you don’t grow from that, then it’s pointless,”

“We’re not going to be in it for participation, we’re in it to win things.”

Sure, it grants access to Europe’s premier club competition, but for Spurs, it’s about much more than just rubbing shoulders with the continent’s elite.

For Postecoglou, success isn’t measured by merely participating; it’s about growth, progress, and ultimately, winning silverware. Champions League qualification is just the first step on the journey towards greatness. It’s a platform for Spurs to showcase their talent on the biggest stage, but it’s what they do with that opportunity that truly matters.

The Australian manager is acutely aware of Tottenham’s recent history in the Champions League – a couple of appearances, a couple of disappointments in the round of 16 since our loss in the final back in 2019. But for Big Ange, that’s not good enough. He’s here to shake things up, to instil a winning mentality, and to push Spurs to new heights.

As Tottenham prepare for a crucial showdown with Aston Villa which can be detrimental to a potential top-four finish, Postecoglou‘s message is loud and clear: Champions League qualification is just the beginning. It’s a chance for Spurs to prove themselves among Europe’s elite, but they must seize the moment and use it as a springboard for greater success.
