Wolves looking to make Pedro Neto a club-record sale
Wolverhampton Wanderers hope to eclipse the £53 million they obtained for Matheus Nunes last summer in the deal that will see Pedro Neto bid adieu to Molineux Stadium, per Football. London. The British media outlet insists that Tottenham Hotspur’s summer target may have played his final game in Wolves colour, and the West Midlands club are already drafting his probable sale.
Pedro Neto has become a sought-after winger following the impact he has been having under Gary O’Neil this season, despite encountering an injury-ridden campaign. His sprints, complemented by acceleration and changes of angles, make the Portuguese difficult to defend against.
The Portuguese winger is heavily linked to Tottenham and Arsenal, with several other top clubs expected to line up a bid for his services.
Injury concerns are forcing clubs to contemplate?
Wolves have put up a price tag of at least £60 million on Pedro Neto, who features on the Premier League assist charts at fourth with nine assists to his name this season. Although injuries could turn out to be a reason clubs might contemplate splashing money on the 24-year-old, he suffered his second hamstring problem of the season against Fulham earlier this month, which is expected to rule him out of the season.
Gary O’Neil provided the tough news to Wolves faithful after their FA Cup defeat to Coventry City on Sunday:
“Pedro, it’s potentially the end of the season for him, very similar to the injury he suffered on the other side. There’s a chance he gets back for the last couple of games if it goes really well.”
“It was nine weeks last time, it could be quicker, it could be a bit longer. It didn’t feel serious at the time but if there’s any tendon involvement, the rehab can take a lot longer. He’s still young and he’s devastated. It’s important we get him back right.”
Neto will be devastated by his recent injury, as it could be the difference between him moving to a title-contesting club and being just another highly-rated prospect. He has missed 47 games with injuries in two seasons now, and that will continue to tick beyond the half-century mark.
