Tottenham could sell Emerson Royal following the emergence of Pedro Porro

Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou have recently been looking to make signings. It is not a secret that the club is open to new players in the transfer window.

This has brought to light the fact that Tottenham might be open to accepting the offer on Emerson Royal. As per the Inside Track Podcast on Spotify, Saudi has shown a deep seated interested in Royal. Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 25-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League since January.

Royal has made 97 total appearances for Tottenham but has been an unused substitute in their last three Premier League games. However, after Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, he has fallen behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order. Porro has been a favourite despite Tim Sherwood initially calling him “so bad it’s unbelievable”. Porro has admittedly reversed that image, thus showing the team’s faith in him.

Naturally, the team is thus not as worried about Emerson Royal’s exit. In fact, they might even believe that this leaving may balance the books a little. As Tottenham continue to punch above its weight, a sale could not have come at a better time for them.

What does this mean for Pedro Porro?

Pedro Porro, as has been mentioned before, draws what can only be described as devotion from team players and fans alike. Having played for clubs like Manchester City and Sporting CP, his career at Spurs was definitely off to a rocky start. However, fortunes have quickly reversed for him because he has played to his strengths.

However, it must also be noted that Pedro Porro’s strength lied in playing as a right wing back for Sporting CP. That was the player’s biggest strength as has been recognised by multiple news outlets. An article from The Athletic was very explicit in their declaration of the same. Ever since he shifted to Tottenham, that had to change.

Due to Tottenham’s defence strategies, and of how Postecoglou organises the game, Porro has been playing as a right-back. This has meant more defensive responsibilities for him and he has been shining there. Statistics have shown that almost 50% of his appearances have resulted in wins.

Moreover, he has also been contributing upfront to Tottenham as far as scoring goals is concerned. Earlier this year, he also scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over Burnley in the FA Cup third round. He is obviously coming into his own and is recognising more strengths in his game play.

Further, ever since his injury recovery, he has proved to be indispensable for Tottenham. The club obviously has immense faith in him. This might be because of how flawlessly he has adjusted to the tactical system of Spurs.

It can thus be understood that Emerson’s sale would not bring adversary to the club since Porro is managing well. In fact, his sale might end up being beneficial to Tottenham as a whole. However, one cannot know whether it was a partnership that was helping Porro thrive. The situation, honestly, seems unlikely.
