Kevin de Bruyne is a testament to midfield brilliance

Kevin de Bruyne has been reminiscent of attacking midfielder standards in the Premier League for some time now. When it comes to creativity, he has been a creative outlet for Manchester City and has been an integral part of their success. The Belgian is the type of player who can unlock the toughest block in a whiff and who knows how many titles Pep Guardiola would have with the Manchester Blues if it weren’t for him.

Premier League 2024 Hall of Fame nominee Jermain Defoe, who has been working at Tottenham Hotspur and is getting his socks right as he aims to walk into management, has seconded the greatness that Kevin de Bruyne possesses.

Jermain Defoe is a legendary presence at White Hart Lane, having scored 143 goals for the Lilywhites during his playing days with the club. When someone of his stature speaks, you listen with your ears.

He was recently asked about which current midfielder he would like to play with the most, and the former Sunderland striker whipped up Kevin de Bruyne’s name in a heartbeat. He insisted that if he were to play with the former Chelsea midfielder, he would be scoring 40 goals a season because, in his words, ‘if your movement is good, you will get chances’.

Defoe went on to say that the 32-year-old midfielder is world-class while appreciating his passing range.

This speaks so much about the greatness that Kevin de Bruyne has achieved during his time at Manchester City. He has whipped up 166 assists for the Cityzens while also scoring 98 goals in 371 appearances; that is a goal contribution every 1.40 games. These are absolutely legendary numbers, and witnessing them live has been nothing short of a pleasure, despite his association with City and not with Tottenham Hotspur.
