Can Tottenham overcome their set-piece struggles?

Micky van de Ven was on target in our 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at home. An own-goal from Murillo and another goal from Pedro Porro on either side of Micky’s goal totalled Tottenham’s goals on the night. Chris Wood equalised after the own goal, but that obviously was not enough.

As is the norm nowadays, Micky took to Instagram to post about the win, and his goal. Commenting on the same post, Tottenham goalie Guglielmo Vicario hilariously said he would’ve hugged Micky but the defender was too far away.

Understandably, their friendship is top-notch. They have to have a good level of chemistry as goalkeeper and full-back and that is evident in Vic’s comments on Micky’s post.

Vik and Micky!

Guglielmo’s willingness to celebrate Micky’s success demonstrates his commitment to the team’s collective goals and his appreciation for his teammate’s contributions. It’s this selflessness and mutual respect that underpins the team’s success on and off the pitch.

We have not really seen a lot of goalkeepers celebrate goals except for a punch in the air, or at most, run around if it is a derby, but nothing more than that. So Vicario’s exchange with Micky is, refreshing to say the least.

In a profession often characterised by intense competition and pressure, moments like these offer a glimpse into the human side of football and the bonds that are formed between players. It’s these relationships that often endure long after players have hung up their boots, serving as a testament to the legacy of the beautiful game, that is football.

From a broader perspective, Guglielmo’s comment reflects the importance of maintaining a positive team culture and fostering strong relationships within the squad which can go a long way in determining the success of a team.
