Cristian Romero has had a pop at Tottenham Hotspur chiefs following the loss to Arsenal.

Even though they failed to keep a clean sheet, Tottenham Hotspur’s centre-back duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven were the best players for the Lilywhites in the 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest.

With a combined transfer fee of £85.5m, the pair of players is proving to be worth every single penny Daniel Levy spent on recruiting them. Romero has been one of the most underrated centre-halves in world football for quite a while now. Adding to that, it is very refreshing to see a young talent like Van de Ven own the stage like he did against Forest.

Considering the current market scenario, the Dutchman, who joined Spurs in the summer for a modest fee of £43m, has taken well to life in North London. Unlike January signing Radu Dragusin, Micky has made the centre-back spot his own, and even though he faced a hamstring injury earlier in the season, his subsequent return to action and top-class form has been brilliant to watch. Here is an interesting stat from Squawka.

Perfect CB pairing?

To be brutally honest, our defensive performances this season have been in shambles, at least for a team competing for the top spots in the Premier League. Injury issues have surely contributed to that, but hope only comes from Cuti and Micky as a pair.

If they continue to stay fit for as long as possible, they can surely foster a positive change at Hotspur Way. Romero’s no-nonsense style of defending compliments Micky’s on-the-ball grace and carrying ability very well, and we can only hope for this partnership to perform at the top level for as long as time permits.

With Romero marshalling the defence and Van de Ven initiating build-up play, they form a formidable defensive unit that is capable of withstanding pressure and launching swift counterattacks. With their combined talent and determination, they can lead Tottenham’s defensive resurgence and propel the team towards their goals in the Premier League.
