Tottenham midfielder talks about his chat with Ange before the season commenced.

Yves Bissouma has spoken about his conversation with Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou after the Australian manager took charge of the North Londoners last summer.

Yves Bissouma moved to the Lilywhites from Brighton in a deal initially worth £25m which could rise to £35m owing to £10m in add-ons agreed with the Seagulls in 2022 when Antonio Conte was still in-charge of the club.

Bissouma endured a disappointing initial season with his new employers, although he has progressed a great deal since the summer after Ange took charge of the club. The Mali international barely featured under the Italian manager following his signing but he has been one of the best midfielders in a pivot in the Premier League this season.

How Ange Postecoglou’s clarity sparked a midfield maestro in Yves Bissouma

The 27-year-old midfielder has compared Ange Postecoglou to Graham Potter before, insisting they share similar high energy and highly tactical approach.

Manager change at the helm has worked brilliantly for Yves as he looks his Brighton self with every passing game. The change has come owing to behind the scenes clarity and hard work from Ange Postecoglou, who assured Bissouma knew what needs to be done and what his role in the team should look like.

In a recent interview in Spurs’ matchday programme for the game against Luton, Bissouma revealed (via. Football.London):

“For me, personally, when Ange came in, he told me exactly what he wants from me and my role in the team. I’m just listening and working hard to perform in the way he wants me to and I’m really happy to work with him and the group.”

Some players need right environment and clarity of role to thrive while others thrive in chaos, the Mali international certainly belongs to the former category as we have seen. He has prospered in controlled environments under Graham Potter before (at Brighton) and now under Ange with Tottenham.

Hopefully this is just a start of Yves remontada and there is much more to come from him at the heart of the midfield.
