RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan on Tottenham transfer radar

23-year-old France U21 centre-back Mohamed Simakan of RB Leipzig is of transfer interest to two Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur.

Even though Tottenham have a fair share of centre-backs in their side, Ange Postecoglou wants additional reinforcements to back the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin. Emerson Royal and Ben Davies have also featured in centre-back for Tottenham over various parts of the season.

Simakan, a two-footed centre-back capable of putting in a shift at right-back as well, is a very good controller of the tempo of the game. He saw himself compared to the likes of Raphael Varane during his Strasbourg days. He sees himself linked to the likes of Spurs and Newcastle, and that’s as per Florian Plettenberg.

Simakan to the Lilywhites?

He can surely get into the Tottenham starting XI instead of Micky and nobody would notice a difference. Extremely fast, very strong and very good on the ball as well, Simakan represents a smart investment for Spurs, particularly considering his age of only 23.

However, he will cost around the €70m mark and we all know Daniel Levy, even with his deep pockets, would pay not a lot over the player’s actual value.

Simakan on the other hand, is very open to a move to the Premier League. In fact, he wants to play in the English top-tier as early as next season, and Tottenham’s interest certainly opens a door for him to open. Timo Werner can wear the agent’s hat and help his former teammate make a decision in favour of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Ashley Phillips and Joe Rodon are all out on loan until the end of the season and to be honest, none of them apart from Tanganga to a certain extent would be able to fit into the pacy style of play under Postecoglou, atleast in theory.
