Redemption at the N17? Serge Gnabry linked with return to North London

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking at bringing former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich this summer, with Football Insider describing Spurs interest as ‘concrete’.

The Lilywhites have been subject to links with multiple wingers this summer, although the links to the Bayern Munich star could cumulate to be a massive one.

He played for North London rivals Arsenal as a youngster, although he struggled to hit the ground running. However, he fit in seamlessly when he got back to Germany. Gnabry hit the ground running as soon as he joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, earning himself a Bayern Munich move after only one season back in Germany.

The 28-year-old has scored 86 goals and provided 52 assists in 235 matches for the German giants, the most recent of which was at the Emirates Stadium, which proved integral to knocking Arsenal out of the Champions League.

Irrespective of his antics against the Gunners, his importance in the Bayern roster has depreciated this season owing to injuries as well as Thomas Tuchel’s preference for Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala in wide positions.

The German international also faces competition from Kingsley Coman on the flanks, and per Football Insider, the Bavarians are willing to move on from the 1995-born attacker after the ongoing season.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou sees Gnabry’s versatility as a massive advantage in his style of play. He can feature on either wing while also playing in a centre-forward role. The 28-year-old’s arrival may be the end of Timo Werner’s prospects of joining Spurs on a permanent basis.

The former Chelsea star is presently on loan from RB Leipzig, and the Lilywhites have the option to make his arrival a permanent one for about £15 million.

Tottenham are interested in multiple players who can feature predominantly in the wide positions, and any deal for Gnabry may be contingent on Tottenham signing any one of those. Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams are among the linked targets.
