Postecoglou’s Spurs flight takes off from N17 to Anfield whispers?
Tottenham Hotspur have made significant progress since Ange Postecoglou took over the reins at N17, and the progress is attracting prospects beyond North London for the Australian gaffer.
The Lilywhites have gone from one of the struggling top six to one of the most exciting teams in Europe in the former Celtic manager’s short time at White Hart Lane.
Following a couple of seasons in charge of Celtic, where the Australian won the Scottish Premiership title in both of his seasons as manager while achieving a significant milestone by completing a historic treble with a League Cup final victory against arch-rivals Rangers in his final year at the helm. The 58-year-old took over at N17 last summer, arriving rather as an unknown entity; however, he has done a brilliant job in North London as Spurs chase a traditional top-four finish despite losing Harry Kane.
Richard Keys insists Liverpool should poach Postecoglou
Renowned pundit Richard Keys has suggested the Australian be the man to take over Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s exit, owing to the beaming job he has done at White Hart Lane.
Given that talks are moving swiftly with the Merseyside Reds looking to get a move for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot over the line, However, Keys insists that they should make a move for Postecoglou rather. Speaking to beIN Sports, he asserts that the Australian gaffer isn’t paid a lot at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and hence the Anfield side wouldn’t have to pay much to sign him.
While he acknowledges the unlikeliness of Levy letting go of Ange, he insists that shouldn’t stop Liverpool from trying. Speaking to beIN Sports, Richard Keys said:
“I’d go for Postecoglou. The reason I say that is that initially, I thought it would take too much to get him out. Then I was told that because he was not his first choice, his salary is not great, and the buy-out is not very big.”
“So that would be my preferred choice. I think he would be terrific at Anfield. I just didn’t think it would be possible; I couldn’t see Levy letting him go. But I’m told the figures do make sense.”
