Spurs eye Bologna starlet Riccardo Calafiori as central defensive solution
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to dip into the Italian market once again as they eye a move for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Riccardo Calafiori is a centre-back by trade, and his services fit into Spurs’ need for defensive depth and competition in the central defensive positions. The Lilywhites will look to hand Ange Postecoglou defensive depth going into the upcoming campaign, as Tottenham have greatly suffered due to a lack of it this season. The former Celtic boss had to play full-backs in the heart of the defence as fillers at some point this season, and he would not want to repeat that going into the upcoming campaign.
Daniel Levy, the official at White Hart Lane, would want to give Postecoglou squad depth that provides him with the tools to address the defensive frailties exposed this season.
Radu Dragusin did board the flight to Heathrow in January in a £26.7 million (€31 million) move from Genoa, as the 22-year-old chose to join the North Londoners over Bayern Munich. Despite signing Dragusin, Tottenham remain determined to strengthen their central defence and are actively looking to sign Calafiori.
Tottenham in Race for Calafiori’s Signing
Calafiori joined Bologna from FC Basel last summer and has been a revelation at the Stadio Dall’Ara this season. He has established himself as one of the most exciting young prospects in his position in Serie A.
Tottenham are looking to bring him to the N17; however, they will face competition from Italian giant Juventus for his services. However, this is also an opportunity for Daniel Levy to flex his financial muscles in the transfer market and establish the Lilywhites as a serious contender for top talent.
