Tottenham shake up scouting team as backroom restructuring continues with Ian Broomfield departure
Tottenham Hotspur are undergoing a major overhaul of their backroom staff as the club sacks senior scout Ian Broomfield, who will now start his gardening leave period, per Football Insider.
Ian Broomfield has been a major part of the scouting scene at White Hart Lane since joining the club in 2009 for the first time. The 73-year-old, after initially joining Spurs, left for a brief stint at Queens Park Rangers as chief scout in 2013. However, he returned to N17 in 2014 to rejoin the club’s scouting team, and he has been working there for ten years now.
Owing to the news of Ian Broomfield’s departure, Football Insider tried contacting the club for an official statement on his departure, which the club confirmed:
“The review of our football operations continues and involves the restructuring of a number of departments.”
Tottenham are under massive restructuring from top to bottom as Daniel Levy wants to ensure the club is nicely placed to move into the next phases of Ange Postecoglou’s project and beyond.
Broomfield is not alone; he is one of the multiple staff members of the club involved in the restructuring at North London.
Tottenham revamp recruitment with data-driven approach
Last year, Tottenham announced that they would undergo a review of football-related policies and modernize their recruitment system into a more data-driven model under the tutelage of the Australian gaffer. Since the club’s announcement, they have brought in Scott Munn as chief football officer and Johan Lange as the club’s technical director.
Rob Mackenzie has also come back behind the scenes in a head-of-recruitment role as the North Londoners prepare for a busy summer window.
