Young defender’s future uncertain at Tottenham after limited playing time

Ange Postecoglou winter signing Radu Dragusin has found playing time hard to come by at Tottenham Hotspur, and his agent indicates the Romanian international would think about leaving White Hart Lane if the same were to continue.

The North Londoners signed from Genoa for a fee reported to be in excess of £26 million as Spurs beat a late hijack attempt from Bayern Munich to land the Romanian central defender. It was considered a major coup for the Lilywhites; however, it hasn’t converted into performances yet as he has been playing second fiddle to the first-choice center-back duo of Micky van der Ven and Cristian Romero.

Lack of playing time has been a cause of concern for the player and the fans alike. The 22-year-old was signed with ample anticipation since swapping Italy for England in early January. The Romanian international has only featured six times for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Radu Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, in an interview with Radio CRC, has warned the North Londoners that his client “won’t stay” for a long time at N17 if he is “just on the bench.” He also goes on to admit how he wanted Radu to sign for Napoli over Tottenham while taking a dig at Tottenham’s Australian gaffer.

“It would’ve been better for him [to sign for Napoli], especially for the sunshine, but it was his choice,” Manea told Radio CRC (via. Calcionapoli24).

“Now he needs to be patient; he has two important players in front of him in the pecking order, and eventually he will find space too. The coach said many times he does not want to play with a three-man defense; evidently, he knows best, but Tottenham concedes a ton of goals. Playing with three gives you more security.

“I also think Tottenham concede a lot of goals from set plays, so Dragusin would be very helpful due to his power in the air, he used to get all the headers at Genoa.”

“If he doesn’t play, then we have to think about other solutions, but he only arrived in January, so that seems unlikely right now.

His agent continued: “If Bayern and Tottenham hadn’t been there, he would’ve chosen Napoli. If they were to offer a loan, especially if Antonio Conte was the coach, then we could evaluate that.”

Interviews like these do not help any cause for Radu Dragusin to start; however, there is frustration building in his camp over a lack of playing time, and this needs to be looked upon in the off-season.
