Veteran defender Ben Davies to depart Spurs as Postecoglou demands change
Tottenham Hotspur are looking at a mass exodus around the corner as we head into the off-season, as multiple players are linked with a possible exit, and veteran Ben Davies is one of the players that will depart North London this summer, per Football Insider.
The North Londoners are heading into a crucial part of the process under Ange Postecoglou as Daniel Levy & Co. look to increase the ceiling of the roster available to the Australian boss. They have identified a few players heading towards the exit door at White Hart Lane to aid new recruits.
Ben Davies has played a back-up role to Destiny Udogie at the left-back position this season, and his recent performances filling in for the Italian have been underwhelming. To put it into context, he was criticized for his angles of positioning against Bukayo Saka in the recent North London Derby, as Arsenal’s winger got spaces to dominate at the N17.
Davies’ influence extends beyond playing days at N17
The Welshman is a big presence at Hotspur Way, though, and his influence behind the scenes makes him a valuable player on the roster. However, it is evident that his time at the club is coming to an end.
Ben Davies has played in the left-back as well as central-defensive roles during his time at White Hart Lane after moving to North London a decade ago, in 2014, as part of a swap deal from Swansea City. He has grown into an integral figure at the club since.
The 31-year-old is on the sidelines after picking up a calf injury against Arsenal, and fans may fear that the long-serving defender has already played his last game for the Lilywhites.
