Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham should have wrapped up the Burnley game much earlier
Ange Postecoglou was chatting to BBC Sport after our 2-1 win against Burnley and he felt Tottenham could have won the game much earlier than they actually did.
Here is what Big Ange had to say:
“We were dominant enough, their keeper was outstanding today and we had enough chances.”
“It’s always difficult when you lose four matches in a row and it is only natural there will be a bit of anxiety and a bit of stress there.”
“For the most part I think we handled the game well and we finished the game strong.”
“It should have been a more comfortable victory but the most important thing is we won the game.”
Goals from Pedro Porro in the 32nd minute and Micky van de Ven in the 82nd minute sealed the deal for Spurs. And when you look at the stats, Tottenham had 5 big chances and took a whopping 21 shots in the game.
Sure, we could’ve been a bit more clinical in front of goal, but hey, at the end of the day, what really matters is those three extra points in the bag.
It’s no secret that our finishing could’ve been sharper. Twenty-one shots and only two goals to show for it? We know we can do better than that. But football’s a funny old game Sometimes the ball just doesn’t want to go in, no matter how hard you try. Ask Richarlison.
And let’s give credit where it’s due – Arijanet Muric, the Burnley keeper, had a blinder of a game. He pulled off some world-class saves to keep them in it. That’s football for you though. Sometimes you come up against a keeper in top form, and you’ve just got to keep plugging away.
At the end of the day, though, what really matters is the result. Three points in the bag means we’re one step closer to our goal. And when you’re in a tight race for Champions League qualification like we are, every point counts.
But right now, let’s just enjoy the win. It’s been a tough few weeks, with four losses on the trot, so getting back to winning ways feels bloody brilliant.

So, yeah, we could’ve been more clinical in front of goal. But let’s not dwell on what could’ve been. Let’s celebrate what is – a hard-fought win and three vital points on the board. Onwards and upwards.
