From rock to hero as Van de Ven scores winner to end Spurs’ losing streak
Tottenham Hotspur star Micky Van de Ven has been a revelation at the heart of the Spurs defence this season, and the Dutch international has been integral to the progress that the club has made under Ange Postecoglou.
The North Londoners signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg in a deal that could rise to £43 million last summer, and it is looking like a transfer worth every penny. He has been one of the best central defenders in the league this season and has shown exceptional abilities with and without the ball.
Micky Van de Ven has contributed massively to the back-line for Spurs this season; however, when the stakes were high and Spurs needed a hero, Micky’s composure in front of the goal paid off as he scored a winner against Burnley in the dying minutes to ensure the North Londoners took all three points following a spell of four successive losses.
Dutch defender earns rave reviews from Nemanja Vidic
Spurs faithful look at him as a defensive mainstay for at least the next decade, and Manchester United icon Nemanja Vidic has acknowledged the quality of the former Wolfsburg defender and insists he has been impressed with the 22-year-old’s displays this season.
During his interview with The Times, the former United defender was quizzed about a defender that has impressed him this season, and this is what Vidic had to say:
“I like talking about the young ones,” Vidic said.
“Micky van de Ven. He’s fast, strong, and good in the air, and he has the capabilities to really improve. The two from Arsenal [William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes] are doing well. Watching them, I feel they like defending and want a clean sheet. I like the mentality they show.”
