Tottenham Hotspur eye move for misfiring Barcelona striker

Tottenham Hotspur were among the suitors when Barcelona snapped the services of striker Vitor Roque last summer; however, the Brazilian is yet to showcase his potential in Catalonia, which has led to rumours of a possible move away from Camp Nou this summer.

The Spanish giants signed the 19-year-old from Athletico Paranaense in the winter transfer window following an agreement worth £52.5 million, including add-ons, between the clubs last July. Some of the most recognized clubs in Europe were actively vying for his signature, as he was regarded as one of the most high-potential strikers coming out of Brazil. The likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United were all linked with a move for Athletico Paranaense number nine.

He has struggled to put minutes under his belt since he moved to Barcelona in January, as Xavi prefers veteran striker Robert Lewandowski to lead the line. This had led to some frustrations building up in Vitor Roque’s camp as Andre Cury, his agent, claimed that he would hold talks with Barcelona management to resolve the situation.

Andre Cury goes on to acknowledge that Xavi does not speak to the Brazilian, confirming rumours of a potential exit around the corner.

The North Londoners offered £34.5 million to sign Vitor Roque before his move to Barcelona was sealed, and it is expected that they would reignite their interest in the nineteen-year-old if he were to consider moving on from Catalonia this summer

Barcelona, irrespective of their financial struggles, understand that Lewandowski will not be around forever, and they are not

ready to sanction a sale for Vitor Roque.

For Tottenham, a player with the attributes and potential of the Brazilian striker would be perfect as they look for a marquee striker this summer. He fits into the Spurs’ recent policy of signing high-potential youngsters who can be shaped as per Ange Postecoglou’s long-term needs.
