A second chance for Tottenham? Reviving interest in Young left-back Thierry Small

Tottenham Hotspur have an opportunity to revive their interest in Charlton Athletic’s former Everton star Thierry Small for a transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window, per Football Insider.

The North Londoners have liked the player for some time, and they have kept following his progress despite failing to sign Small from Southampton last year. Spurs last year, precisely in the January window, tried signing Small with an £800,000 bid, but they were short of the Saints £1.2 million price tag.

Following Tottenham’s failed pursuit, Thierry Small moved to St. Mirren on loan before he eventually found his way to Charlton Athletic in the winter window this year. He is a left-back by trade and has continued to impress officials at the N17 with his performances in League One. His impressive performances have led Charlton to offer a three-year contract; however, they will face serious interest in keeping hold of the 19-year-old.

Derby has expressed interest in acquiring his services this summer, while Charlton is expected to trigger a one-year contract extension option while Small thinks about his next steps. This also ensures that his current employers will be compensated if he bids adieu in the summer, while also giving space for new conversations about a long-term contract.

Tottenham are said to be in the market for a left-back this summer, and they may end up reigniting their interest in signing Thierry Small. However, even if Daniel Levy were to sign him, it is a big step to make from the third-tier to the Premiership, and ideally, a loan to a Championship side to aid his development should be in the works.

It is to be seen if Spurs are serious about Small’s interest this summer or if they are looking at other players in the position.
