N17 seeks central defensive reinforcements
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to potentially bring Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori to White Hart Lane this summer; however, the North Londoners face competition for his signature.
There is a dire need for a new central defender at N17 in the off-season. Spurs had to make do with full-backs playing centrally at some point in the on-going season, and that could not go on if a project process is to be made in the next season. Daniel Levy & Co. did sign Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window from Genoa, although he has not gotten the expected game time since his arrival in England.
Dragusin’s arrival only makes it three high-quality, high-potential CBs on the Lilywhites roster, and there is an expectation that Tottenham will sign at least one player in the position this summer.
Bidding war looms for Bologna’s Calafiori
The 21-year-old defender has been making noise in the Italian top division this season, and that has sparked interest from the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli this summer. While German champions Bayer Leverkusen are also looking to sign him.
Riccardo Calafiori has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season and has been integral to Thiago Motta’s Bologna this season.
For his current employers, Bologna, they are looking to reap as many monetary benefits from his sale as they can. The Italian club is looking to create a potential auction situation for Riccardo Calafiori’s services, per Italian daily Tuttosport. They are looking to recoup at least €25 million from his sale.
