A diamond in the rough? Treacy backs van de Ven to become the top defender

Tottenham Hotspur have multiple players who are below world-class par, and they will be looking to increase the quality of the roster this summer. However, the North Londoners have one player who is special, as former Burnley winger Keith Treacy named one special player in Spurs ranks.

The Lilywhites will not be hosting Champions League football at White Hart Lane next season following the Manchester City defeat incurred in the mid-week. Ange Postecoglou has foreseen multiple problems coming to the surface in the final run-in of the season, and the Australian gaffer will be looking to iron those out in the off-season.

Keith Treacy noted that the defensive line at N17 has been a problem, as he highlighted the potential banana skins at the club. While doing so, he did name-drop a special player among the Tottenham ranks who oozes class and optimum quality.

The former Republic of Ireland international insists that the North Londoners have multiple players in the defensive ranks who are poor while suggesting that Micky van de Ven isn’t a problem player while tagging the Dutch international as having the capacity to become one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League.

Keith Treacy, speaking about Spurs problems and Micky van de Ven on Off the Ball, said:

Micky van de Ven has received praise for his performances this season.

“Full-backs, look, I don’t think Micky van de Ven is a problem; I think he’s going to be one of the best center-halves in the league, but Pedro Porro is for me, and I think Romero can be rash as well. The first goal was so flimsy.”

Treacy’s resolute belief that the 22-year-old is going to become one of the best centre-halves in the league is not a surprise, considering he has barely put a foot wrong since joining Spurs last summer.

For Micky, it is about keeping at this level and finding more levels to his game while progressing with the Spurs.
