Buongiorno a target? Tottenham look to address defensive woes with Italian starlet
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking at Alessandro Buongiorno for a potential transfer in the summer transfer window, as the North Londoners were linked with a €40 million move for the Torino defender. (h/t Fichajes)
The Lilywhites are in dire need of acquiring a new defender in the off-season as the roster needs considerable depth in the heart of defence following the muddle in the ongoing campaign where Ange Postecoglou had to make do with playing full-backs as central defenders at some point in the season. Daniel Levy & Co. would want to ensure that doesn’t happen again, which primarily drives Spurs interest in a new CB despite signing Radu Dragusin in January.
Premier League dream? Buongiorno eyed by Tottenham amidst Serie A interest
The 24-year-old, who is a wanted man, is vying for interest from suitors around the continent following his antics in helping Torino finish in the top half of the Serie A table. For Tottenham, he fits into the recent policy of signing young players with huge potential that Ange Postecoglou can shape as per his style of play; however, they will face ample competition for his signatures.
Alongside Tottenham, the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in his signatures from the Premier League, while the Italian Milan-based duo of Inter Milan and AC Milan are also said to be targeting the Italian defender.
The North Londoners would feel in control of a possible move, with the defender recently suggesting he would like a move to the Premier League and acknowledging the attractiveness of the prospects of playing in the English top tier.
Speaking to Calciomercato.com, Alessandro Buongiorno said:
“Where do I see myself in the future? The Premier League as a
league is very attractive; there are very strong teams and players. You can continue to grow.”
