Werner to stay or go? Tottenham hold the cards on German forward’s fate

Tottenham Hotspur famously have the option to sign German international Timo Werner on a permanent deal this summer; however, per Bild, the 28-year-old’s current employers, RB Leipzig, have not heard from the North Londoners about whether they want to exercise the option to sign his services on a permanent basis or not.

While the former Chelsea’s star arrival at the N17 brought headlines of split opinions, Timo Werner has performed exceptionally well under the Australian gaffer Ange Postecoglou. Ange slotted Werner in the left flank position rather than his preferred central-forward role, which has worked quite well for the Lilywhites. He has been making some exceptional contributions for the North Londoners in the second half of the season.

He has scored two goals and provided three assists in his half-season in the Premier League, which amounted to 13 appearances in the English top tier.

Timo Werner picked up a season-ending injury earlier this month, and it is to be seen whether we have seen him play in the Spurs badge for the final time.

Bild have acknowledged that the officials at Tottenham have not made any indications of their plan for Werner, as the White Hart Lane side hold a €17 million (£14.5 million) option to acquire the German’s services. The reports relay that the Premier League giants have until June 14 to make a decision on the option they hold on Werner’s contract.

However, as of now, Marco Rose’s side remains in the dark as Tottenham look to pull out a blueprint for their business in the summer transfer window.
