Spurs U21s clinch historic first Premier League 2 title
There is finally a trophy to display at White Hart Lane as Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s win the Premier League 2 trophy and beat Sunderland 3-1 to become PL2 champions for the first time.
There has been a system change in the Premier League this season as they adopt a new ‘Swiss style’ approach with 25 teams playing under one table rather than the traditional Division One and Division Two systems.
Spurs U21s smash trophy drought with dramatic play-off final win
Spurs finished on the summit of the regular season’ before heading into the playoffs as they beat the Saints 3-1 owing to a brace by Will Lankshear. The ace was named the PL2 PoTS following a tally of twenty-five goals across all competitions before the finals. He opened the scoring for the North Londoners before doubling the lead in the second half.
George Abbott scored the third goal, the fifth goal in all competitions in the fifth minute of stoppage time; however, Sunderland pulled one goal; however, it came too little too late.
Wayne Burnett has done a wonderful job at N17, as his U21s remained unbeaten until February. He has won eleven consistent games since the commencement of the season.
