Whiteman deemed surplus as Austin takes up Goalkeeper role
Tottenham Hotspur are expecting a busy transfer window this summer with multiple players, both from the first team and the academy, set to depart. This list of out-goings has a potential exit for young goalkeeper Luca Gunter, per club insider John Wenham.
Bryan Gil and Djed Spence are expected to be among the first out the door at White Hart Lane after failing to impress Ange Postecoglou. Alfie Whiteman could follow suit, as the 25-year-old goalkeeper is a surplus at Hotspur Way following the announcement of Brandon Austin signing a new long-term deal.
The latter has made his way into the first team; his 14 successive appearances on the bench in the latter stages of the recently concluded season showcase the confidence that the club has in Austin’s abilities. Fraser Forster, who is the current number two, has his future blurred, and he could leave with the possibility of Brandon Austin replacing him.
Luca Gunter loan move incoming?
Now, John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, states that Luca Gunter is on the list of potential departures this summer. He could be loaned out in order to gain minutes in men’s football and some valuable first-team experience. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“Gunter was excellent in the Premier League 2 play-off final. He made some key saves, and he’s another player who I would like to see head out on loan next season. And after Austin’s contract announcement, I am sure he will do just that.”
